Welcome to Thursday Snippets

On the March Labour Day weekend we have a  break from club racing at Albert Sailing Club. A number of members have indicated that they are likely to be down sailing on Saturday, depending upon the weather conditions. Club racing resumes on Tuesday with the second last of this season’s Twilight Races commencing at 6pm.

Club Events

On Wednesday (10th) we are hosting an interschool Fleet Racing Regatta. Over 40 students from 5 or more colleges and secondary schools are expected to participate. Contact Don McKenzie who is the Race Officer for this Regatta if you can help out either on or offshore.

On the weekend of the 13th and 14th March we have a full weekend of sailing at the club. The 5th race of the 2010 Summer Series is on Saturday 13th March. We expect a large Division 4 in the Saturday race with Melbourne Grammar School students competing in their school Pacers as their final programmed summer season activity. Albert members with Pacers are encouraged to join in and give the boys some good competition.

There is also a full program of training on that weekend with Basic Skills courses on Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon, and junior training on Sunday morning.

Other Events for the Labour Day Weekend

Missing your sailing this weekend. Here are a bunch of events to get involved in.

There is plenty of sailing around Victoria, over the weekend, with a number of events attracting Albert Sailing Club members. The Impulse class have their State titles hosted by Williamstown Sailing Club on Saturday pm, Sunday am and pm, and Monday am. A fleet of around 30 boats are expected, including 5 or 6 boats from Albert lead by Paul Farrell the 2009 Victorian Impulse champion. If there are the expected Southerly winds, the course is likely to be to the East of the main shipping channel and Princess Pier at Port Melbourne would be a good spot to have a view of the Impulse races.

The Marlay Point race for trailable yachts and multi-hulls, sportsboats and keelboats is being held overnight on Saturday into Sunday. Several hundred boats have entered the race which starts on Lake Wellington at Marlay Point on Saturday evening, with boats sailing through the Gippsland Lakes to finish at Paynesville sometime Sunday. We know of three trailables skippered by Albert Sailing Club members participating in the event. Peter Wright, Steve Lincoln, Brian Finlayson and their respective crews will be flying the flag for Albert.

The Victorian Laser Association is conducting an all day Coaching Day on Saturday 6 March at Mordialloc Sailing Club. Details are on the Victorian Laser Association website.

There are other class State Titles and regattas on this weekend. See Upcoming Events on the Yachting Victoria website for details.

We wish those sailing in the Impulse titles, the Marlay Point race, and any other club members sailing in events over the weekend, good sailing and look forward to reports on how they fared.

Recycling at the Club

With SEDA using the club during the week and Saturday and Sunday racing the club is producing a fair amount of garbage. A large percentage of that is recyclable material. We now have a regular rubbish and recycling service, as such we need to separate out the recycling from the normal rubbish.

In the club rooms there are now two bins with blue lids on them. These bins are for recyclable (cans, bottles, paper etc) items, and should be emptied into the main recycling bin (also with a blue lid). The wheelie bins (1 recycling, 1 garbage) are stored at the end of the first isle in the boatyard.

Thanks

Welcome to Thursday Snippets

It seems that Melbourne has continued it recent breezy Saturday afternoons and Tuesday evenings. Every time I am on the water we seem to have a good steady breeze. I am not sure how appreciated the strong winds are down at the Masters Regatta at Geelong, now that they have had 5 days of decent breezes. Congratulations to Walter, Buster and Rod on their results down at the regatta and putting in a good showing for the Albert Sailing Club.
I would also like to remind everyone that Muddy articles/photos/etc are due by this weekend. See below for more details!

Security at The Club
Over Summer the various doors at the club have been left unlocked, and equipment left on. Over the next couple of weeks we will be working to tighten the security at the club, this will done by a process of making sure our policies are enforced and better information for people locking up the club.
The first policy to be enforced will be in relation to junior members being at the club without an adult member being present. All junior members using the club must be in the presence of an adult member, and it is that adult members responsibility to make sure that equipment is turned off and the club is locked up. The keys and card of any member who lets a junior attend the club without supervision will have there cards and keys suspended for at least 3 months.
Keeping the Club Clean
With SEDA using our club during weekdays it is important for us to keep the club clean. Therefore we can no longer have clothes hanging around the club change rooms. Any clothing left in the change rooms will be removed and eventually disposed of after 2 weeks. Anything left in the change rooms will be placed in bin near the tinny.
Muddy Articles Needed
Once again the deadline for the Mudpuddler is rolling around. Andrew needs articles/photos/anything else for the Mudpuddler by the 28th of Feb. Email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it with your articles. Andrew will especially welcome any articles about peoples time at nationals or other summer sailing adventures.
Impulse State Titles
The Victorian Impulse state will be held at Williamstown sailing club on the Labour day weekend, 6th to 8th Mach. We are hoping for a big turn out this year as the club is only about 15 minutes drive from Albert Park and the rigging area is ideal for both lake and beach trolleys alike.
For those that do not have a road trailer, transport can be arranged by contacting Paul Farrell, this service will be on a first come first served basis and is limited to a small number of boats. Paul can be contacted by email, " This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it " or phone, 0429020597. NOR and entry form is available at http://www.ausimpulse.com.au under "news" and "events".
